Toby Bailey still has boosties...
based on the fact he won the dunk contest before the Greek All-Star game on April 10. Like many other former Bruins, he is playing ball overseas; he plays for AEK in Greece. You can see his Euroleague profile here. He's playing well enough to represent the Rest of World against the Greek All-Stars in the game itself - he scored 8 points, though his team lost. Here are two photos, one of him dunking and one of him accepting the contest trophy (yes, that's Dominique Wilkins who was on hand for the festivities):

Here is another picture of Bailey in action in league play, making a move against Ray Romano's brother from "Everbody Loves Raymond" (or more likely some guy who looks a bit like him):

Comments:
Toby is going bald! Toby Bailey... shaking my head, not because he's thining, though, but what happened to Mr. UCLA? Toby was cocky, arrogant, but look at him now. He is basketballs biggest bust. Don't get me wrong, I'm a UCLA fan, but wow and the other players on the '95 team...
Blame it on Harrick and Lav!

I’m (STILL) Toby Bailey’s fan! That comment really bothered me. First, Toby is doing really well over in Greece. YES! Indeed, there are a few of us who still follow and support him. Second, the NBA does not accommodate every player, style, or skill, but that doesn’t mean that they are "basketball's biggest bust"

You wrote: TOBY WAS COCKY, ARROGANT, BUT LOOK AT HIM NOW. Back in ’95, I was only 15 years old when the Bruins won the national title. Toby scored 26 points, along with 9 rebounds, and 3 assists. I never missed a game on TV after that, I followed Toby, J.R., Kris and the rest of the team until they (Tobe, KJ, and J.R.) graduated and let me tell you this:

Toby is the opposite of what you wrote or think. He is unselfish, classy, hard working, (handsome), and everything that Miles Simon or any USC player would want to be on a given college basketball night and off the court.

Toby sacrificed his personal numbers and goals for UCLA. He played out of his “natural” position as a shooting guard to point guard and then small forward, and heck he even played center. He always came up big when UCLA needed him by making the game winning shot, free throw, block, or steal-he was the best clutch player on the team. Toby took the weight of the world on his shoulder, it seems. Through it all he never complained. How can you sit there and call yourself a UCLA fan when you put one of our players on blast? Why Toby? And what about his hair? What does his hair have to do with anything?

I have nothing against you personally, just that your comment about Toby hit me the wrong way.

One more thing before I go, your comment came off kinda personal. So let me guess, you and Toby were after the same girl and she turn you down for Toby? Or you’re a girl and Toby turned you down?

Things are getting pretty heated in here. Interesting opinions coming from both side.

JD, can you give us more updates on Toby, when is he coming back? Or maybe a one-on-one interview?

I'm sorry Stephanie, I don't have any direct connection with Toby. If you want to see more about him, you can see his page at the AEK fan website. He also did a short inteview with at Euroleague.net that includes his opinion on the European playoffs.

JD,thankyou so much. You are doing such a great job. I'm still a fan of Toby's and the players on the 1995 team, thanks for bringing back the great memories. Can I put in a request- would you post Toby's news in here. Anything on Kris Johnson, too?

Thanks for the kind words. Regarding Kris, glad you asked, I'll be posting something on him very soon - tomorrow if my schedule permits. And I'll try to keep my eyes open for anything significant happening with Toby,

If you have other requests, go ahead and let me know, and I'll see what I can do.

JD-
I had a chance to read some of your post, indeed, you brought back many memories. I remembered when Ed got down and kiss the floor, my heart dropped. I remembered my cousin crying her eyes out, she was a big fan of his.

1995 was the most magical season, maybe because I was apart of it. 10 years later and I still remember like it was yesterday.
Unbelieveable!

I so agree with your post on Lav. You really highlighted what I have been thinking for years. I couldn't have said it better. Also, I agree with the anonymous poster, well the last part when that person said "blame Lav", he really did the players wrong.

As Stephanie wrote, you are doing a wonderful job. I cannot wait for Kris Johnson's post, Toby's, as well as other Bruins. Have a wonderful day and keep up the hard work and dedication.

Anything know the whereabouts of Moose Bailey?

Regarding Moose Bailey, the last I read was that he was working as an aide in the office of Governor Grey Davis back in 2003. I assume this changed once the Governator took office.

Good to see J.R., Kris, Charles, and Toby doing well, but Ed...I'm so bummed. A week ago I was watching the tape of when the Bruins captured the NCAA title and boy I got to say it was special, I had tears in my eyes. Nothing in college basketball really stood out to me than that year and that team. Also, Kris, J.R., and Toby's career stood out, no other class has endured that much DRAMA!

And think about our rivals, Miles Simon (what happened to him?), CAL players, Stanford's players? That whole rival thing...shaking my head. WOW!

JD, please keep us updated on any Bruins that are going to be in the SPL next month.

Thanks!

That was really cool how Toby analyze the games and teams, but I I think that was a translated version of what Toby said.

How is everyone-JD, UCLA07, Anonymous?

UCLA07, I know what you mean about all that drama and rivals. Speaking of Zona, I can't stand Miles Simon. (Our true rival is Arizona.) He talks a lot of crap, I'm surprise Toby didn't beat the crap out of him. Actually since I'm talking about it, I can't stand that whole Arizona team! Throw Stanford in there, too.

Anywho, I hope he does play in the SPL, I don't think he did last Summer, but that would be a treat to see him there this Summer!

Stephanie, yeah, I have to agree - I can't stand Arizona either.

real quick note on Miles Simon - looks like he's one of the finalists to be an assistant at Arizona along with Reggie Geary, another former Wildcat. Simon would be an interesting choice, especially with his ties to Southern California - he went to Mater Dei High School (the same school of Taylor King, who recently decommitted from the Bruins). If Arizona did hire Simon, it would be just one more reason to root against them.

I guess Miles Simon won't be getting the job after all, as Arizona hires Geary for the assistant position.

I'm just curious, why wasn't Miles Simon hired? As much as I can't stand the guy, I did see a lot of potential in him. I like the idea of hiring a guy who took them to the championship and won, did horrible in class and then came back to get his degree, and so forth-poor kid.

Geary... sound familiar, was he the guy that Toby stole the ball from and did that reverse jam? ;P

Stephanie, I'm doing well and you?

I'm doing very good.

Geary...yes, I think so, but I don't remember if he stole it from him :) All I remember was Toby ran the other way with the ball and then jammed it home. I think Toby might have traveled, but it was an awesome dunk!

I don't really follow Zona's players or basketball so I wouldn't know. If Geary beat Simon to it, it is probably because he worked hard. I don't know, I would have chose Simon, too. URRRG! That's the first nice thing that I ever said about him.

UCLA07, anonymous, JD: why do you like or don't like Toby? Have you met him in person? How was he? Details please! I've heard different stories (good and bad). I saw him after the national title at the L.A. Festival on his cell phone, looking sexy, but I didn't talk to him. I remember one of my friend had a crush on him so she went to a game to take pictures, but he acted like he was in a hurry. I also heard from guy friends around the L.A area that he was stuck up, but this is when he was at UCLA. To me he seemed more level headed than the others.
I met him when he played for the ABA Los Angeles Stars, I stay in Inglewood.

Hey Stephanie! I live in L.A.! To answer your question, I have met him twice, he seem very cool both times. First time was at Pauley his sophomore year, he signed my basketball and I asked about his brother and that was it. The second time was his senior year, I just went over and ask if he was doing well he said "yes, thankyou". Then he left :(

But believe me I have heard stories like he's always in a hurry, he declined to sign autographs, or he ignores people, sometimes, but they were all dressing very skimpy! And I have heard worse, but I don't believe what I hear, anyways. Toby had many fans and haters so I go by the way he treats me on an individual level, make sense?

Take care.

UCLA07-I know what you mean, but can you share some of those stories? Also, I do notice that he doesn't react to people who dress skimpy (LOL) as you said. He seems pretty classy. I wonder what type of girls he dated or currently dating, if he's not married ;)

Poor Toby, I hope he is okay. I will be praying for him.

JD-Is he still in the hospital? They didn't go into detail about this "serious back injury"?

:_o(

Stephanie, the article didn't give details about how he got hurt, just that the injury will prevent him from playing in the series. I don't know if he ever was in the hospital. Hopefully it wasn't that bad.

Hello Stephanie. Here is what I found out: Toby was hospitalized for the back injury and is schedule to undergo SURGURY today!

Yes, we will be praying for him. I think surgery is over because of the time difference between us and Greece, it's Friday over there already.

He will be fine. No worries :) Take care.

Thanks for the update UCLA07. I think we're like the only two that follow his career. Sad huh when a guy is not in the NBA, people don't give a crap. He had so many fans back then and now they're off the bandwagon.

UCLA07, JD-

Any updates on Tobe?

Wassup y'all, just came across da blog. He should be back home already, if not he is probably on his way. There's a chance he might play in the SPL.

PS Toby is not that innocent :D

Dijon got traded! Fingers cross, we don't another Toby Bailey scenario or repeat :P Sorry Toby.

Anonymous310, what's this Toby not that innocent thing all about? Now you have me all curious.

UCLA07, you're ignoring me now? :(

Me,again! That should say DON'T WANT. Sorry I was typing really fast ;)

JD, you too! You have been ignoring me! I'm joking :) How are you and how is everything?

Hi Stephanie,

Sorry I haven't been responding, I've been a bit busy lately. Haven't heard any updates on Toby, hopefully no news is good news. How have you been? Did you follow the draft? I think Dijon is in a much better situation in Phoenix than he would have been in NY.

JD,
I've been busy with work. What about you? It's good to hear from you. I did and I didn't. I only looked for Dijon Thompson. I think that he will do well in Phoenix. I hope he doesn't go down the Toby Bailey path. Riding the pine and the injured list, and playing what we called the "crap" minutes.

All I heard on Toby was that he had back surgery and is back in town. I haven't anything other than that.

Have a wonderful day and talk to you soon!

Toby is doing very well. He is almost back 100 percent and will be back in Greece in December.

Thanks for the update. I hope he's able to play well in Greece. We all look forward to hearing more news about him.

Hello JD!

It has been a while! How are you? What have you been up to? Gawd, so many questions :)

Thank you anonymous for the update on Toby, but I thought you couldn't stand the man! ;-) *someone has a crush*

Anyways, I am curious, is Toby still trying to play in the NBA? I know that it doesn't matter where he plays, but I always thought that Toby's style of play and skill is/was very suitable for the NBA.

I am sad to hear that he will be leaving the States again, but I'm happy that he is healthy. Hope everything works out for him. He made a major impact on that team last year and now that he's gone-they pretty much sucks.

JD-are you ready for Bruins basketball? I know I am. I like the team that we have now, but the injuries are piling up.

PS: there's this BIG fiasco about Jordan Farmar's tat(s)-what is it? Is there a picture?

Just ran across this blog as I was looking to see what Toby was doing these days. Well take it from me Toby is the man. I was captains with him in High School and never in my life have I seen a freak like this. In High School at the Myrtle Beach Classic I saw him go for 50 against Kevin Garnett (not to say Garnett didn't have 50 himself tho). Toby was a pogo stick, that simple.

However I just wanted to take a second to clarify his character. Guy is as solid as they come. Humble, quiet, passionate, caring etc etc. Anybody that says anything different is wrong....

I actually saw Toby Bailey the other day and for your information he is not going bald!!!

just curious...where'd ya see him? heard he's married with a kid to earl watson's ex girl, ha ha.

toby baily plays in germany at the ARTLAND DRAGONS in the first german league and i think he is on of the best 3pt shooter and a really athletic player. he is my favorite player in all of europe.. www.artland-dragons.de on youtube you will find a very nice vid on him doing a facial dunk.
Greetings from germany
